Michael Pilypaitis
The Neighborhood Candidate for Omaha City Council District 3
A Better Omaha for Everyone
I’m running for Omaha City Council to focus on real solutions that make life better for all of us. We need leadership that prioritizes families, fixes what’s broken, and ensures our city works for everyone.
Investing in Early Education
Every child deserves a strong start. Expanding preschool access will help kids succeed, support working families, and strengthen our community.
Fixing Roads And Making Them Safer
We’re done with patchwork fixes. Our streets need long-term investment—not band-aids. Let’s rebuild aging roads and sidewalks the right way, and make sure every neighborhood has safe crosswalks, curb ramps, curb extensions, and traffic calming where it’s needed. You shouldn’t have to risk your safety to walk your dog or cross the street.
Transit That Serves The Whole City
Let’s build on what the streetcar left out by expanding bus service, making it more frequent—especially north and south—so more people across Omaha can access jobs, schools, and services in a quick and efficient manner. Public transit shouldn’t just work for a few neighborhoods—it should work for all of us.
Preventing Power Outages & Improving City Services
We can prevent power and cable outages by having the city trim hazardous trees before they fall. Simple, proactive solutions like this make our city run more smoothly and save taxpayers money.
Affordable Housing That Works For Us
New development is coming—but who is it really for? We must hold developers accountable to build homes people can actually afford. And with the streetcar being built, we need to fight for affordable, walkable, and accessible housing that works for families, pedestrians, and cyclists—not just luxury renters.
Clean & Safe Parks and Trails
Our parks and trails should be clean, inviting, and maintained with care. Right now, debris and neglect are too common. Let’s bring pride back to our public spaces—and give them the attention they deserve.
Lower Property Taxes Through Smarter Development
When we limit TIF (Tax Increment Financing) to truly blighted areas, we protect public resources and help take the pressure off homeowners. Let’s make sure public money benefits the public—not just developers.
Practical Solutions for a Stronger Omaha
Omaha is growing, and we need common-sense leadership to keep up. By fixing roads, expanding opportunities, and ensuring fair public safety, we can build a city that works for all of us.
Let’s make it happen together!

Meet Michael
I’ve called Omaha home for most of my life. It’s where I’ve built my family, my career, and my passion for serving others. As a husband, father of two daughters, musician, and former Chief Steward for the Communications Workers of America Union, I’ve always fought for fairness, opportunity, and the well-being of working families.
My experience in advocacy and leadership has shown me the power of standing up for people who need a voice. Whether it’s in the workplace, in our neighborhoods, or at City Hall, I believe in solutions that put people first. I’m running for Omaha City Council because I know our city can do better when we focus on what truly matters—strong communities, reliable infrastructure, and a government that listens to and works for everyone.
I’m excited to bring my passion and experience to serve the people of Omaha. Together, we can build a city that works for all of us!
